Our Treble Clef ladies had a ton of fun preparing and presenting our Christmas Concert Series this year to various senior centers, a community event, and final performance for Friends and Family, held on December 17th. Here are some highlights!
Practicing was frequent and fun. We gathered weekly and practiced under the practiced hand of Helen Fairbourne.
Stan Beck and Layne Galbraith practice their duet, The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting).
Helen Fairbourne was our conductor this time.
Nancy Beck worried that she was our only accompanist, "what if I get sick," she said. But she didn't, and she and her playful piano playing hung with us for every performance.
Her stress at doing it was relieved when her husband, Stan, agreed to turn pages for her.
We followed the pattern Bonnie has established in choosing songs. We began with the fun and humorous side of Christmas, then led into more inspiring, Christ-centered numbers.
Shelly Moore supplied the narrative that connected each of our songs in her usual lovely way.
Here's our singing flow:
We began with, HERE WE COME A CAROLING. That led us into one of our favorites,
REINDEER ON THE ROOF.
After some laughs, especially supplied by Linda as Rudolph, we took a lively pause with
WINTER WONDERLAND, with Layne and Anadeane singing a brief introduction.
We continued the fun with
EVERLASTING FRUIT CAKE. Our choreography is busiest in this number as we have fun tossing that poor fruitcake back and forth, to the delight of our audiences.
Linda Snelling fills our audiences with laughter with her animated movements in Fruitcake. Her face offers a perfect illustration for Fruitcake's craziness!
We calm down a bit with
THE MOST WONDERFUL TIME OF THE YEAR. Pat Green and Sandy Crumrine look pretty wonderful here!
Our transition song was provided by Layne and Stan, as they sang,
CHESTNUTS ROASTING. Our audiences seem to especially enjoy our men. They provide a nice contrast to us girls.
Our more inspirational numbers began with our audiences joining us in singing,
AWAY IN A MANGER and SILENT NIGHT. Here is one of our audiences, not quite smiling yet because our concert hadn't started!
Our trio, made up of Linda Snelling, Reba Hanson and Rena Firkins, sang a lovely song,
MARY'S LULLABY. Here's Reba with Bonnie Capel

Rena was featured, with Linda and Reva singing harmony. Here's Rena with Misty.
Misty played the part of Mary as a living visual while the trio sang. She also filled in singing the piece when our trio began the concert series with colds and hoarse voices. She sang like an angel!
The Lullaby was followed by the group asking,
WERE YOU THERE? Enjoying the fun are Mary Mowry and Shelly Moore.
Stephanie Adolf then performed, with her lovely alto voice,
SWEET LITTLE JESUS BOY. Here's Stephanie with Mary.
We summed up our singing messages of Christmas with,
LET THEIR BE PEACE ON EARTH, raising lighted candles as we concluded.
Here are some of the rest of us. Sharon Elison shares a chat with Carol Wintersteen.
Carol Wintersteen and Anadeane Galbraith look pretty happy.
Charlotte Knudsen and Sandi are both Seconds. I'm thinking they look a little bit alike. What do you think?
As always, singing in itself brings us joy. But there are the additional benefits of bringing joy and friendship to many seniors in many places, forging close ties and love with each other, and providing financial support for our favorite cause, International Children's Surgical Foundation. This wonderful organization performs cleft palate surgeries for children in developing countries. So far we have donated enough funds to finance more than 23 surgeries!
Here is some of the magic cleft palate surgery can do.
