Spring Concert, 2016

The Treble Clef Singers
perform their Spring Concert,

2016

Ode to Sing

This Spring's concert centered around a theme of the joy of singing and music.  Under Bonnie's inspiration, every song expressed it in a different way.

Conductor, creator and inspiration:  Bonnie Capel, busy getting us in shape.

Pianists and singers, Jodel Faris and Nancy Beck

THE TREBLE CLEF SINGERS
Sopranos:  Mary Ellen Grobe, Nancy Beck (Jodel Faris), Sharon Elison, Carol Wintersteen
Seconds:  Melinda Hedges, Reba Hanson, (Charlotte Knudsen), Anadeane Galbraith, Marilyn White
Altos:  Mary Mowrey, Linda Snelling, Stephanie Adolf, Shelly Moore

Melinda introduced us at each performance:
"As Beethoven wrote his 'Ode to Spring' so we have our 'Ode to Sing'"

Our concert was full of the joy of singing, reflected in each song we sung.  We began with "Sing With Me":  "Nothing makes me feel better than singing a song with a friend..."

We followed with a short children's song, "Sing a Song."

With a slight slip of the tongue at one of our performance Melinda introduced our only bass Clef as,
"the lovely Layne".  What fun we had after that calling our only man, Layne Galbraith, "lovely".  Here he is, singing, in his smooth, rich bass voice, "Sing, Baby, Sing."

"When troubles trouble you, sing, baby sing!"

We embraced the world with, "I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing."
"I want to see the world for once, all standing hand in hand.
I want to echo through the hills for peace throughout the land!"

Who doesn't love the "Sound of Music?"  Carol, and occasionally Sharon, introduced it with a lovely solo.  Jodel added her beautiful voice while the rest of us ooo'd a lot.  The effect was quite lovely!
Here is Carol making her beautiful soprano sound.

"Hmmm," said Shelly.  "Did you happen to notice that the altos got stuck with a lot of ooos and ahhhs in that last song?  We are getting kinda tired of that.  And we have something to say about it!"

And so the altos scooted their way in front of the rest of us, to begin their "Alto's Lament."

After the Altos finished their musical whining, the Seconds and Sopranos responded with
"....take your melody and go to heck!"  Pretty shocking language!

But by the songs end, we were all friends again and agreed to, "Sco-bop-bado-badeep" cooperate!

"All right, all right," Sharon said.  "We get the message.
You can sing the words in the next song and we'll sing the la la la's.  Its your turn to shine."

And so, with sparkling crowns in place, the Altos sang "Sing."
As promised, the rest of us mostly la la la'd.

"Every show needs a goofy song, " explains Sharon, "so here is ours."  And with that, we began "The Orchestra Song", with small groups of us becoming instruments, and making the accompanying sounds.

The Orchestra.  Moving left to right, violins, clarinets, trumpets, horns and drums.

Mary Ellen and Sharon are violins and making a "lovely sound."

Charlotte, Reba (and Jodel) are clarinets, that sing, "doodle doodle doodle doodle det."

The Trumpets, Jodel, Anadeane (and Carol)  are sounding...Ta ta ta.

Mary, Stephanie and Marilyn are horns..."the horn awakes me at morn..."

Last are the colorful drums, Linda and Shelly, beating "always the same notes..."

Things calmed down a little when Jodell, Mary Ellen and Linda made a lovely blend with
"I've Got Rhythm".

A few arguments over an umbrella enlivened "Singing in the Rain", sung by Layne and Anadeane.  At our Friends and Family performance the girls offered a little more excitement when they showered us with real "rain!"

"Old Fashioned Melody" brought out the dancing!
Mary and Shelly charmed everyone with their chareston
and other cute moves.  All eyes were one them!

Our closing number, "Music, Music, Music, left behind a melody that just about everyone knew and they often sang along with us.  So ended our musical offering for this Spring.  It was full of happy sounds and fun times for all.

This season's earnings made it possible for us to donate $1500 to our favorite cause, International Children's Surgical Foundation.  This group offers surgeries to needy children in developing countries.  Most of the surgeries are cleft palate corrections.  Below is a letter of thanks we received from them.

The joys of Treble Clef are several:  friendship, singing, and the ability to help those who
need it so very much.  How blessed we are to be a part of it!
