Spring 2012.........American's Folk Songs

Reminisce with the Treble Clef singers as we share with you
some of America’s beloved folk songs.
During the Revolutionary War the British mocked the “Yankes”
by calling them “doodles” which meant simpletons.
The “Yankes” turned it around and embraced the song.
Later during the Civil War, both sides celebrated
 “When Johnny Comes Marching Home”.

Now join us around the campfire for some cowboy love songs
from “The Red River Valley” in Texas to “Springtime in the Rockies”.

“Don’t Fence Me In” but ride along,
as cowgirls Reba and Lynnette sing us this song.
Your heart will be a throbbin’
as we sing about “The Red Red Robin”.

Now comes the patriotic part of our program.
We would like to take a minute and recognize the Veterans in the audience.
Please stand or raise your hand.
The patriotic songs are close to our hearts
since several members of this group are
married to Veterans or mothers of Veterans,
as well as Lynette who is a Veteran herself.

As we “Sing of America” we will be joined by Brad and John.
Next, “You’re a Grand Old Flag” written by George Cohan.
This song was inspired by an encounter with an old Civil War Veteran,
holding a carefully folded tattered flag in his lap.
We will conclude with “God Bless America”
and may God bless and keep each of you!
